Mountain Dew has been distancing themselves from unwanted controversy. They recently pulled a commercial by Tyler, the Creator that some viewed as racist. Now, they’re dropping Lil Wayne from their roster for comparing the brutal murder of Emmett Till to rough sex on the song “Karate Chop.” The exact lyric goes “Pop a lot of pain pills, ’bout to put rims on my skateboard wheels … beat that p***y up like Emmett Till.” Wayne recently apologized to the Emmet Till family for his comment, but the Till family was not satisfied with his apology. Rick Ross was also dropped for controversial lyrics. This begs the question, what is rap’s place in the commercial world?
